A coat is so much more than just a coat,
For me it is a hug of warmth, a layer of protection.
It’s trusty pockets safekeeping my few possessions.
Wrapping me up during the day,
Covering my bed at night,
Keeping me safe.
My coat is my comfort.

Approximately 7000 men, women and children live on the streets of Cape Town, finding what little shelter they can when the stormy Cape winters bring icy winds, driving rain and plummeting temperatures.

This was what moved our founder, Marco Van Embden, to start an organisation straight from the heart. He realised that something as simple as a coat can make an enormous difference in the lives of the homeless of Cape Town. So, at his sixtieth birthday, he asked friends and family to bring coats instead of gifts. And the idea grew from there.

He gathered a team of like-minded people and organisations around him to help him get coats onto the streets and to the people who most need them.

Our mission is to provide Capetonians-in-need with a warm winter coat at no cost.
